One of our workstations is a new PC with Office XP Pro
loaded.

When the user of this machine types names in the To: box,
Outlook suggests items that are not in his address book;
just random "close matches" to what he's typing that he
happens to have typed before.

This is obviously Outlook trying to be helpful just like
IE does with web site URLs. Is there any way to turn
the "helpful" feature off? It's throwing this user off-
kilter.

Of course. Turn off Autocompletion here:
Tools > Options > Preferences > E-mail options... > Advanced E-mail options
Uncheck "Suggest Names..."
