I have Outlook 2000. I select my Contacts folder and
choose a view (whether built-in or custom) from the "View,
Current view" menu. I then change what I see on my screen
by (a) clicking on columns to change the sort order and/or
(b) dragging fields to or from the field chooser. I
obviously get a different view of my data on my screen.

If I then want to revert to the view originally selected
from the "View, Current view" menu, I CAN'T get back to
the view because my modifying of the view in (a) and (b)
above seems to have been saved.

This is equivalent to opening an Excel or Word document,
making some changes to the document but then NOT saving
the file, opening the original version of the file and
finding it has got all your unwanted changes in it!

Is this really so or am I being dumb? If the former, can
the person responsible for this insane behaviour,
please..... go and learn something about software design.

Here's a workaround:  Display the Advanced toolbar if it isn't already
visible; it contains a Views dropdown box.  On the view you've modified,
type a new view name into the box -- when you hit Enter, it will ask you to
confirm the view name and choose which folders/users to make the new view
available to.  Click OK and your custom view will be saved.  Then you can go
into View | Current View | Define Views and reset the original view.  You
might want to use this method whenever you want to change a view but don't
want to alter the original -- just quickly create a new view.

THANK YOU. Good workaround. That is the first time the
forums have really worked for me.

Have a great holiday.
