I have read several articles about how to remove "United
States" from your contact address but all of them pertain
to inserting an address into a Word document.  I did what
the articles said and if I insert an address into a Word
document it works fine...HOWEVER...if I go to "envelopes
and labels" and try to insert an address from the contact
list there "United States" shows up at the bottom of the
address.  How can you get rid of it in the envelopes and
labels?

The same way. Modify the AddressLayout field. To learn about ways to control
how an Address is inserted into Word from Outlook, take a look here:

How can I modify the AddressLayout in the Envelopes and
Labels section?  You say the same way but I don't know how
to tell it I want that format when I want to print an
envelope or label.

Are you saying that I first have to insert the address
into a word document and then click on the envelope/label
icon?  When I do that it works but if I have a blank word
document and click on the envelope/label icon and try to
insert an address from my contact list there, it comes up
with United States of American at the bottom of the
address.

Did you follow the instructions I posted?
That's al I've ever used and it works fine.

Yes, I followed the instructions and it works if I insert
an address into a word document but if I have a blank
page, open the envelope/label icon and try to insert an
address using the address book icon in the envelope/label
box the address comes up with United States on the
bottom.  If I insert the address into a word document and
then open hit envelope/label icon the address is
automatically inserted and it's correct.  It's just when I
want to type an envelope or label and not a letter.

I cannot repro that behavior. Both methods yield the same result.
Post your AddressLayout.

Also, since you never posted your version, you need to be aware that the
AddressLayout option does not work for Envelopes and Labels in versions 2002
and higher. All documented here:
