Created a new folder under contacts and it has
disappeared with about 250 contacts, addresses, etc. in
it.  About six hours worth of data input.

Any ideas about recovery?

Vanishing into thin air for no reason is not a known issue, nor one that
provides any opportunity for troubleshooting. You must have some clue as to
what happened. If you hit Delete by mistake, it would still be in your
Deleted Items Folder.

Not in deleted items folder. Cannot find it in anything
archived. Was moving text from WordPerfect to Outlook
contacts and had created a folder to receive them.  The
next time I came to work with the folder, it was not
displayed.

If deleted by mistake are there any recovery options?

There are no recovery options for items no longer in Deleted Items. I still
don't understand how this happened. Moving text from WordPerfect to Outlook
Contacts? Perhaps if you told us what that meant and explained more clearly
what you were doing we'd find a clue. Also, if by "created a folder" you
mean a PST file, then that could still be on your hard drive. Have you
searched for PST files?
