Importing Word Text file into contacts

Has anyone imported a word text file into Outlook
contacts. I have tried saving as a text file and bringing
across using the importing tool which resulted in a
contact being produced for each word in the text document.
Is there a proper way to do this?

As long as the file is comma or tab delineated with fields clearly marked,
import in into Excel then save it as a CSV file.
You can then import the CSV file into Outlook.

Thanks - I have done this and now when mapping custom fields each value will only map to one field. Any ideas?

You'd have to provide all the detail of what you did for anyone to figure
out what's wrong, including how you identified fields.

With earlier versions of outlook I have created a csv as you suggested and mapped the values to the outlook contact fields. However with newer versions (2000/2003) it seems that there may be a bug in the mapping function using the Map Custom Fields window. It allows you to take the first value and map it to the name field I then press the next button to reveal the next value and it seems to automatically mapthe new value to the name field and I can't seem to change it to the address field without changing the earlier name field also. I hope that make sense. Any help would be gratefuly received as I am running out of hair.

Custom fields? You can't map custom fields.

All that's required is for you to drag and drop the appropriate field names
from the left hand side (your field names) to the right hand side (Outlook
field names) and then let Outlook perform it's magic importing your file
(this is on the assumption that your file contains the field names in the
first row of the file).

Is there a reason you are reviewing the individual field values during the
mapping process?
