Some contacts not in Address Book

In Outlook 2002, some of the entries in my Contacts do
not appear in my Address Book.  The omitted entries have
email addresses, and are not set as private.  There is
only one data file, and the Contact list is properly (as
far as I can tell) linked to the address book.  I noticed
this only this morning when I selected an address in an
email header and clicked "Add to Contacts."  The new
entry (and several others, I have since discovered)
appears in Contacts, but not in the address book.

Any ideas?

An update:
It now appears that none of my newly created Contacts are
showing up in the Address Book, regardless of how the
entry was created.  Do I have somehow to tell Outlook to
update the Addess Book?
