I have upgraded (as opposed to de-installing and re-
installing(probably my first mistake)) office 2000 to
office 2003. Everything appears to be ok, except when
users of Outlook select new mail message and TO.. to get
email user listings. An error occurs "can't contact LDAP
directory server (81)

I suspect the registry has not been updated correctly.

I would be grateful for any help on this one

Kindest Regards

Martin

No. The Outlook Address Book was not added to your profile. Remove the LDAP.
Add the Outlook Address Book.
You must have upgraded from IMO mode. Yes, that is almost always a mistake.
