Help!  The Standard toolbar has an area to find a
contact.  I have always used this, but now, when I enter
a contact name into the box, "Outlook encounters a
problem and needs to close down."  I send the error
report to Microsoft, but get no response back that there
is a "fix."

Suggestions?

You failed to post your Outlook version.
I'll make a guess. Take a look at this MS KB article, it may help:

Otherwise, you're on your own.

Perhaps your adressbook is corrupted. Quick solv: make a
new map under contact folder. select all contacts in
current contact folder. Drag all of them to the new
folder. and reverse these steps.

This might solve your problem
