I want to us outlook on my home pc and keep contacts such
as banks with account numbers and passwords private, so
that they cannot be accessed on my pc without a
password.  (Palm Desttop does it this way, for
instance).  Is such a thing possible?

You can only password protect an entire .PST file...not individual items.
There is a "private" setting for Contacts, but it has no effect except when
using the delegate option with Exchange server (so that a delegate can't see
items you've marked private).
