On of our secretaries uses a shared contact list to keep up the contacts for
a VP.  very often after she adds a contact or 2 the will not be there the
next time she opens the VP's contact list.  Some time it works and sometime
the contacts just disappear.  This is very frustrating since the VP's
contact list is pretty big and she has to add to it often.  We are using
Outlook 2000 on the front and Exchange 5.5 in back.  Exchange is loaded on
an NT 4.0 server that does nothing but Exchange.  All updates, service
packs, and such have been applied to her W2000 Pro workstation.  No one else
is having this problem.  Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks
Byron

This just came in fro the secretary so I thought I should include it.

"Copied from e-mail"
I'm messing with contacts, and here's what's happening: (I'm typing as I'm
doing so I don't forget what I've done!)

FROM MY COMPUTER:

1. I shut down outlook and reopened it. Opened contacts from "file" "open"
"[Username changed] (Contacts)" . I entered a new contact, hit "save and
close", waited over 1 minute, and it stayed on the screen in the proper
place instead of disappearing in a few seconds as it has been doing. Hope
sprang up. I then closed contacts, waited a minute, reopened contacts the
same way, and it was gone. Hope was dashed once more!

2. I accessed [user's] contacts via the shortcut on my outlook bar, entered
the same contact, his save and close, and waited one minute with the same
result, except the entry disappeared after 56 seconds.

HERE'S THE EXCITING PART! - FROM TIM'S COMPUTER

I just went in to enter contacts on [user's] computer to see if the same
problem exists on his. Lo and behold - every contact I've put in over the
last few months is in contacts when opened from his computer! In fact, there
are 3 and more entries for some, since I've tried them multiple times. So...
obviously contacts is working in terms of the data going in - it's just not
"sticking" on my computer when I access his contacts. I feel better know
it's there, at least on his. Now, if we can just get it to show up on mine!
I'm hoping this is a relatively easy task that may just have to do with
sharing permissions.

"End copy"

again any insight would be appreciated.

Sounds like they're all being marked Private.

I am having this exact problem with our receptioninst adding contacts to
the CEO's shared contacts.  I, however, am using Outlook 2003 and
Exchange 2003.

This problem did not occur until the CEO had more that 1000 contacts.

It is good to hear that someone else is experiencing this.  I will
definately post if I find a solution.

I rather suspect that the size may have something to do with it but they are
not having this problem in the college presidents office.  He has over 7000
contacts in his list.  This VP has less.

Thanks to all that have responded.  I am continuing to look for a solution
to.  I will check into the private thing.  Can this be set as a default for
the contact list and where do I go to find it?

That is what is happening.  This morning I went to the secretary and had her
build a contact then do a save and close.  As usual it disappeared from her
view.  While the VP was out of his office we went in to check his computer.
Sure enough it was there and marked private.  Obviously, removing the
private check mark made it visible to the secretary.  We then created a new
contact from his computer making sure the private checkbox was empty.  After
a save and close we reopened the new contact and it was marked as private.
It looks like this is happening as a default even though the box is not
checked when the contact is created.  Any thoughts.  Exchange 5.5 sp4 on NT
4.0 sp6a server.

Thanks again for the help

You did not specify the Outlook version. Could this be related --

Outlook 2000.  I am not sure that this is related but can't say that for
sure.  No one else on the campus is having this problem that I know of.

Thanks
