Why can't i delete records from my Outlook database of contacts?

It keeps growing. I do a lot of importing could this have
anything to do with the problem?

I go to my address book, Show Names from the:

I have multiple contact lists that I have deleted but they
still appear as an option.

Our IT people can't figure it out.

Neither can we. You didn't even post your Outlook version, let alone what "I
do a lot of importing" means.
Provide clear and accurate details if you want help. Include the contents of
your Folder List. Remember, we cannot read minds.
