Importing Address List from Excel

I'm trying to import an address list from Excel, but keep
getting an error message telling me the "range" hasn't
been defined. I'm not a neophyte but can't think of what
needs to be done to import the list. So far, I have made
sure the column headings are the same as Outlook/Contact
defined headings, attempted to define the range in several
places (which hasn't worked), and talked to our help desk
(ditto). Tried changing to a .txt file - it imported, but
only the contact names, no addresses. I'm stumped!

Before you save the worksheet, select the data you want to import, then
choose Insert | Name | Define and give it a name. Then save and import.

This didn't work -- any other ideas?

What happened when you tried?

The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does not quote earlier
messages in the thread, making your latest message so short on detail that
you risk not getting the answer you're looking form. Please take the time to
quote the original message.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you wanted to see the previous
e-mails. What happened - it successfully imported, but I
have customized fields (Title, First Name, Last Name,
Address, City, State, Zip/Postal Code) and only the Last
Name and Zip/Postal Code were imported.
Thanks!

Did you use the data mapping dialog to map fields between Excel and Outlook?

Yes, thanks - it mostly worked, after I mapped it; the zip
codes imported with a ".000" extension that I had to
delete by hand, but otherwise it saved me a lot of time
(even spending most of the day working to import it).
Thanks again.

Two things you should do:

#1 - Save your file to .CSV format and just to be sure it has all the data
you want in that file open it again in Excel
#2 - If it doesn't have all your data - clear out all your named
ranges/print area etc that you've created for this and start fresh
#3 - Import the CSV file and I suggest that you "explicitly" map your fields
and not let Outlook automatically
assign them for you - your data may be getting imported but not to
where you're looking or the column name
you assigned is NOT "identical" to Outlook's (most likely the case if
you're using automap)
