I'm using Outlook 2003 under WinXP Pro

Is there, or should there be some correspondence between the "from" field on a new e-mail message and an Outlook contact item; that is, should the mail engine know that the person sending the message is "me"? And do I need to define "me" by setting up an Outlook contact item that has my name and various e-mail addresses in it?

Why do you feel a need to define "me"?

Well, I'm thinking about the "e-mail address" and "reply
to" fields on the e-mail account set-up sheet; is that
data completely independent of any date from an Outlook
contact item that I created for myself? It seems to me it
would be useful if Outlook knew that one equaled the
other.

As to "why define 'me,'"  I'm thinking about the "add a
vcard to a signature" help file in Outlook. It suggests
adding a vcard to your sig; to create the vCard you
(apparently must) use the "New card from contact"
feature, and for that procedure there has to be a contact
item to select from, i.e., "me."

Yes, they're completely separate. Have fun with your vCard.
