If I create a contact list and then later delete it, the
contact list is never removed from the Address book. It
still shows as a list. I have tried everything to remove
it from the list of address books but have not been
successful. Plus, it still shows everyone who was in that
folder.

It almost seems like you have to unmark it as an address
book before you delete the contacts folder.
