By searching on this topic I found the answer to my recent
message.

Indeed, this problem must have began when I changed OS.
When I was prompted for Area Code in a dialing location
dialoge, I inadvertantly input my Zip code.

As soon as I found this and changed it to the correct area
code the problem resolved itself.

Indirectly thanks to you Russ Valentine. It was one of
your answers to a similar question that lead me to my
discovery.
