Outlook Express Address book has broken for some inexplicable reason

After my computer crashed about an hour ago, I loaded it
up and Outlook Express is now behaving very wierdly. I
suspect that Chkdsk has removed vital chunks of something
to do with the address book, as OE now asks me to
reinstall it...

However, this version of OE came with my computer and I
do not have a source disk (because it came as part of
windows xp home, and they only send out certificates of
authenticity, not source disks)

So:

I can't reinstall it.

Replacing the existing "wab" file with a backup does not
work - the same problem occurs and OE still refuses to
recognise that there is an address book there

Any suggestions?

Jon

PS: I am using outlook express 6

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
outlook express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x

A good website for information on OE is:
