Check name sort order

I have two machines that have a global contact list from exchange server.  On one when I do a ctrl+k to search, I can type first names and it looks those up.  The other will not sort by first name using same user credentials and exchange server.  How is this controlled?  The client is Outlook 2003.

Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
