deleting a contact

I added a new email address for someone in my address
book.  I deleted their old email address and it no longer
appears in Contacts nor does it appear in the address
book.  Both names still appear when I am typing in the
name of the person in a new message.  How do I delete the
one address?

The entry is in your autocompletion cache, not your Contacts Folder. Remove
individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting the entry
when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to migrate to
the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of the field.
To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:
