"File As" field.  What is it for?

I'm using Outlook XP and perhaps the "File As" field is a throwback
for compatibility with earlier versions or something.  But if it
isn't, I can't understand what it is intended for.

I can sort my contacts a million different ways, including by First
Name, Last Name, FullName.  I can also set Outlook to display
"Fullname" as "First Last" or "Last, First".  What do people use (or
what did Microsoft intend) the "File As" field for?

Curious,
Lance

Consider Joe Doakes, who works for Allied Importing. In your screen view, do you
want him to fall under "J" or "D" or "A"? Or maybe "That SOB who owes me 3
large." Your choice.
