Every time I save a contact that has a birthday, Outlook
2003 automatically creates a new birthday calendar entry -
even if one already exists.  How do I stop it from
creating duplicates every time I modify a contact?

Stop creating duplicate contact entries. Instead, add the information to an
existing contact item for that individual.

Wrong answer. The question was why the dublicate calender entries are created
whenever one (!) existing contact with a birthday is changed.
