I am running Exch 5.5 SP4 and either Outlook 2000 or 2003 clients.  What I
am trying to do is export my contacts to a CSV or Excel spreadsheet.

The problem is when I export my contacts the e-mail address appears as X.400
and the type is EX since the domain belongs to my exchange server.  I need
to be able to store the actual smtp address in the contact list so that I
can synchronize with my blackberry, ipaq, etc.  Why isn't the actual e-mail
address save in the contact list when the e-mail address is also in my GAL.

How do I save the actual e-mail address in my contacts so that I can sync.
with my handheld?

Thanks.

Outlook stores only the X.400 address for GAL entries you add to your
contacts. If you want the SMTP address, you'll either need to use code to
get to it or use one of the GAL export techniques that can give you those
addresses; see http://www.slipstick.com/exs/portagal.htm

Thank you for your reply....

This is not the only problem.

If in my contacts I add a new record with the name of Thomas Brooks and an
e-mail address of tb@xyz.com.  Since xyz.com domain is owned by Exchange it
converts my SMTP address to X.400.  I have tried using a personal folder
stored on local machine and my contacts which is stored in Exchange.   Both
convert the SMTP address I saved into X.400.  Then when I sync with my ipaq
or blackberry the e-mail address is wrong and unusable.

Why is this and how do I correct?  Can I never sync my handheld devices with
my computer since they are Exchange based?  This sort of makes the handhelds
useless for contact syncing and e-mail.

Does Exchange 2000 and 2003 also have this issue or is it strictly with
Exchange 5.5?

Thanks.

This is not an Exchange issue, but an Outlook issue, common to all versions.
The page I suggested earlier presents potential solutions.
