Somehow Outlook is broken. When I try to open it, I get the message that
outlook.pst cannot be found. I think that is the file for the contacts.
Then when I click on the contacts Icon, I get a message that says "unable to
display folder. folder no longer exists." So I tried re-installing Outlook
from my Office97 CD rom, and I still get the same error. I don't seem to be
able to re-install or fix this file. I even tried creating a file called
outlook.pst, and that didn't help either. I have most of the data in
Outlook Express and want to import it back to Outlook so that I can create a
file and print out formatted lists. I don't know why Microsoft didn't
include a print option like this in Outlook Express, but that's a question
for another newsgroup!
Start at the beginning, please. The part before "somehow Outlook is broken."
We can't fix it if we don't know how you broke it. The PST file contains all
of your Outlook data. Outlook will not lose its connection to its data for
no reason. Only you can provide that clue.

I'm not quite sure what I did. I had some problems with my computer; took
it into the shop. Played around with it myself. All I want to do is get
Outlook back. Regardless of what I did, I would think I could reinstall it!

Reinstalling Outlook would not restore your data. However, nothing short of
a reformat of your hard drive would lose your data. Search your hard drive
for *.pst files. Open each in Outlook until you find your data.
