I had to reinstall Windows XP and lost my programs. In outlook are my
contacts lost or were they somewhere on my computer when I backed it up so I
can restore them?

The file you need to look for is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's
where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored. If you simply
reinstalled Windows, it will likely still be there, but it is a hidden file
on Windows XP.
