how do I transfer outlook contact filles

I need to transfer my contact information in outlook form my laptop to my
desktop - does anyone know how I should do it?

Create a new Personal Folders file (PST file) and your Contacts Folder into
it.
Open this PST in the other installation.

Thank You that ios the first step but how do I then get the PST file of my
contacts folder from the laptop computer to my desktop computer?

You copy it and open it on your desktop's installation of Outlook using the
File > Open command. If you copy it onto a CD, you will have to remove the
read only attribute it acquires from being on a CD.
