I've searched but not found a reason why I cannot goto my Outlook 2000
addressbook, select my own entry and export to a vCard ... that is, the
export option is ghosted.  In fact, no matter what I select, I cannot
export.  I cannot select "contacts" and export to (e.g.) a WAB file.  I
cannot use Outlook itself to select the "contacts" folder and export to WAB.
I cannot similarly select my entry in Outlook contacts and export to VCF.

From Outlook 2000, there appears to be little I can export to ... to a file,
but not WAB, not VCF ... and to a timex watch ... ARGH!

From the Outlook addressbook, the export (and import) ability is simply not
available (ghosted), and the helpfile is useless ... i.e., it simply implies
a procedure that is not available.

Wrong technique. You need to select your contact in the Contacts folder and
use the File | Save As command to save the item as a vCard .vcf file.
