Display Names in Distribution lists

My current distribution lists are listed alphabetically by the first name.
Is there a way to change the "Display Name" settings so that it automatically
lists by the last name?

I know how to change the "file as" preferences, but cannot find a setting
for "display name" preferences. Any help you can offer?

DL's have a mind of their own and for the most part will not follow the
settings you specify. Since you did not mention what those settings are,
what your current Outlook version is, or how the DL's were created it is
completely impossible to say.
