If someone creates a large distribution list and emails it to me, how do I
save it in my own personal address book?

That would depend on how the DL is sent. The best way is to insert it as an
Outlook Item in an RTF message. Then you can just open it and save it. It
will be saved in your default Contacts Folder, by the way. Outlook hasn't
used a Personal Address Book for years.
