I am trying to change the color of a flag in the contacts area of Microsoft
Outlook. There is a box in the "flag for follow up" area but it is greyed
out. How do I get it active?

Contact flags don't have colors.

I beg to differ. In my contacts view (current view - phone list) with the
flag status showing, I am able to "left click" on a followup flag and choose
a different color flag. So why can't I do that when I am in the individuals
contact data?

What I would really like to do is sort my contacts by follow up flag
starting with the overdue ones first.

I think this is one of those cases where Outlook lets you do things that
don't really mean much because they haven't been completely implemented. (My
favorite example of this type of "feature" is dragging Contact fields to a
Tasks folder view.) Color flags were designed to work only on mail items.
That they work in a contact phone list is cool, but they're not implemented
in the rest of the contact UI.
