I am trying to restore my contacts from a .pst backup file that I had
previously created. The Import routine fails with the error message that 'The
file D:\backup.pst is not a personal folders file.' Any advice gratefully
received

How did you create this "backup" and where did you store it?
You should have simply made a copy of your PST file. Exporting and importing
are not a good idea.
