I have multiple folders and I need a new folder named wedding and linked to
selected names from other folders linked to the new folder.  I am trying to
avoid changing the  outlook subfolder for each person we invite.  CAn someone
please help me.  I also could not figure out how to do the mail merge is
there a good source to learn that?

Outlook doesn't do linking to proxy items like that. COnsider keeping all
the names in one folder and using categories to distinguish them.

Word Help has the information you need on performing a mail merge.
