No information here. Explain what you mean by ERP software, how it creates
and sends messages, what your client Fax software is, how it integrates with
Outlook, and what your cover page settings are in both the fax software and
Outlook.

Well... our ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software is what we use
to run our entire business from Accounting to Distribution to
Manufacturing. It uses Microsoft Word Templates as its business
document stationary (Purchase Orders, Packing Slips, Invoices, etc.)
and fills in the details using bookmarks. The only setting that I see
in that software is where we specify to use Microsoft Fax. When we
choose to print one of the business documents, the software fills in
the bookmarks, attaches the Word Document to an email message to Email
address: Fax Contact@1 888 555 1234, Email type: FAX, Internet Format:
Send using Outlook Rich Text Format, Subject: Invoice 007242.doc.
We are using Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition and it's
integrated Fax Service and all clients have the MAPI Fax Mail
Transport account set up in their Microsoft Outlook 2003 (SP3)
client. The account is set to print to the \\Server\Fax, Include a
cover page with faxes is unchecked. The only setting I can find on
the server relating to cover pages is "Allow use of personal cover
pages" which is checked. I have a U.S. Robotics Courier V.Everything
external modem attached to the servers COM port which handles our
incoming and outgoing routings.

I suspect your ERP software is triggering the cover page by how it is
sending the fax programmatically. If the fax were sent as an attachment and
the cover page option is off, that would be honored. If it is just sent as
mail message, it might not.
Have you been able to examine the format of the cover page to determine its
origin?

If I had to guess, it looks to me like the first page is the actual
email itself. I suppose if I were able to stop it in the outbox and
add something to the body, I would be able to confirm this. If that's
the case, blanking out the subject should result in only the
attachment being faxed. I can test this but unfortuneately, I won't
be able to change the behaviour without consulting with the ERP
vendor. Thanks for your time...

Aha. So it's not a true coverpage at all, then right? It's just the message
itself. You can't stop that. Your ERP would need to invoke the Fax Service
differently.
