Getting to outlook files from a laptop HD

My laptop died but I was to save the HD using a USB enclosure.  When
connected to my desktop, I cannot retreive any outlook files (messages or
contacts) from the external HD.

Please advise.

Are you able to find the .pst file at least on the hard drive?
Then maybe File-->Open-->Outlook Data File?
