I uninstalled Mcafee anti-virus and began to get this message when opening
Outlook 2002:

The add-in “c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\outscan.dll” could not be installed
or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the
Help menu. Unable to load “C:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\outscan.dll”. You may
be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file.

I also get the same message for the vsolplg.dll file.

"Detect and Repair" did not resolve the problem. Functionality of Outlook
appears not to be affected.

How do I get rid of the messages?

Repairing Outlook won't help since those DLLs are from McAfee.

This article is about OL2000 but should still apply in your situation:

The document you referenced directed me to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions in the
registry in order to delete the .dll files causing the problem. However, the
two Mcafee files I mentioned are not in the "data" list.

Other ideas?

Thanks

Are any McAfee addins mentioned in the lists here: Tools menu > Options >
Other > Advanced Options > Addin Manager or COM Addins

"McAfee VirusScan Outlook Email Scanner" is listed and checked twice in
"Add-in Manager."

Does unchecking it help?

Did the trick. Thanks for saving me from a $35 support charge!

I've got the same problem now with Outlook 2007.  McAfee was uninstalled
long before Outlook was installed.  I found the Add-in Manager at "Tools,
Trust Center, Add-ins" but McAfee or VirusScan is not listed there.

Is there a known fix for this in MS Office Outlook v.12?

Thanks
