Message Icon doesn't change on custom form

We have created a custom form for sending emails and have noticed that when
the meail message is read by the recipient, the icon next to the message in
the folder remains an "unread" icon.  Is this a limitation with custom
forms - that the configured icon is locked in or is there something I can do
about it?  When designing the form, there only seems to be the one place to
set an icon and it doesn't differentiate between read and unread.

This is normal behavior for a custom message form. See http://www.slipstick.com/dev/messageform.htm for other known quirks and limitations.
