If you don't have a backup of your old .pst file, it may be possible to hire
a data recovery firm to retrieve it from the hard drive, but I have no
experience with that.

You can recover it with a product like EasyRecovery, but you better stop
using the machine or you will overwrite the space where the pst is located.
Best bet is take the drive to a different machine, slave it to that machine
and run EasyRecovery (or some other data recovery software) on it.
