My emails with only text are sending and I can receive emails either with
attachments or without.  I would like the sending progress to display on the
bottom right corner like it did on my old work pc.  That way I can tell if it
was sent successfully without using the send/receive button.  I have been
sending collegues 5 to 10 identical emails trying to figure out if things are
getting through.  I have already checked the laptops firewall setting to
ensure it is not the problem.

The first thing you should do is to disable any mail scanning you may do
with your antivirus program.  It doesn't make you any safer and it
interferes with client/server communications.

The second thing you should do is make sure your send/receive interval is at
least 10 minutes and that your server timeout value is adequately long.
