I think it would be a lot more useful if Outlook could run in the backround
like messenger does that was it is not taking up space one the task bar.

So, select the option to minimize it to the system tray.

Frankly, this is a nonsensical request, since I can't see what difference it
makes whether the handle for Outlook is on the taskbar or in the system
tray.  You still need a handle and operationally it's identical.  Your PC's
resources are equally used wherever the handle is.  Its position is merely
"window dressing".

"So, select the option to minimize it to the system tray."

And just how does one do that?

For Outlook 2003 (and 2007, I believe), right-click the Outlook icon in the
Notification Area and select "Hide When Minimized".  For Outlook 2002, it's
a registry setting.  See http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/mintotray.htm .
For other versions of Outlook, it's not possible.

I have Outlook 2002 on Windows 2000, followed the registry changes - worked
perfectly - thank you!
