If you have an administrative install point, you should be able to apply the administrative version of the SP3 patch to that point and have users install everything at once.

Thanks for reply Sue, but unfortunately, we are not using
an installation server, simply installing from CD (don't
scoff!!)... It was my recommendation to coard, but they
simply wouldn't resource it.

You might try this:
-- Run Setup /a to create an installation point on a workstation that doesnt' already have OL2000
-- Install the admin version of the patch
-- Run a test installation on that workstation, using the installation point.
If that works, then burn the entire installation point folder to CD and use that to install.
