how to increase the size of the ost file

i know you can compact the ost but can you allow more space for it?

Depends on the Outlook version, which you didn't mention.

No with Outlook 2002 and earlier; they will cease working at or a little
before 2 GB.  With Outlook 2003, they can grow to 20 GB by default and
larger if you change the registry.
