Outlook emails problem

Hi

With my "INBOX" highlighted when I click on "send/receive"

In the bottom right of the screen it shows me the progress of the action.
Sometimes it starts of at 5% then goes to 20% etc other times it starts at
20% then goes to 30% etc.   But it will not complete the task.

I have to close Outlook down and then go back into it and this time if I
click on "send/receive" the operation is completed successfully.  However in
the past when I clicked for emails if there were none to waiting for me then
the progress indicator went straight to 100%  it now slowly goes up the scale
to 100%.

This has only just started happening since I tried adding rules via the
rules wizard.  I have since deleted those rules and it is still happening.

I have also used the "DETECT REPAIR" facility but this doesn't sem to help.
Can anyone suggest  what is going wrong.

I can't understand why I have to now close down Outlook and re-open before I
can use the inbox facility.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards
