rabbstersocal - 24 Mar 2006 09:31 GMT Well, ok, I get an error message to contact my smtp provider as something isn't correct. Yo usee it worked before I clicked on something without totally knowing the outcome [stupid I know] but done nonetheless. I'll try and send out again to capture the exact error message so I can itellignetly respond to your question.
Thanks for answering my question and attempting to help me.
OK, this time my test message to send out went directly into the Outbox and when I try to Send/Receive All, nothing happens to the outgoing message, it just sits in the Outbox. Does that help you help me?

And the exact text of that message is?

Pearl4949 - 24 Mar 2006 20:45 GMT Brian,
You need to Use the POP incoming as the POP3 Incoming mail server information.
Then you need to use your ISP as your outgoing SMTP (whoever that is, not necessarily the POP outgoing). It is confusing at best. That should take care of it.
Then remember you may have to set up rules after that to get the mail to POP into that a/c too.
I am finding other issues setting up my pop a/c with folders and all the subfolders, depending on which a/c I have popped. Outlook is a powerful program!
I am working on this for myself right now. Kind regards,

Try remembering I had it working at one time until I clicked on some security option and then I could no longer send ermail out, just receive it.
Could we have Brian come back into this conversation - PLEZ!???
> Brian, > [quoted text clipped - 19 lines] > > > > What happens when you try? Pearl4949 - 26 Mar 2006 23:50 GMT That is what happens to the original account, you will receive mail into it and now it is popping into the Outlook account. That is what is happening to me also. I am receiving mail into my MSN dialup account.
You have to have a paid either server/ or internet/msn account. Which you probably do.
Then when I had called Outlook the other day, she set up the isp account and the pop account in Outlook under the personal folders. Then she made some rules and that popped the e-mails over. But the original dialup account will be able to receive only, NOT send out replies.
I fiddled with that and RUINED it.....I have to call back again.
I am going to lunch. If you have a business account and you need to get into it. Just try disconnecting the info in the Outlook a/c and see if your other a/c will not start working again everything should still be on the system. Come back and work on it later when you have more time and can chat with Brian......... I need help myself. I am just explaining to you what I know from my experience.
You have to go out of the program for the changes to take effect.

All my accounts went in just fine. I popped my hotmail a/c in. The one I had problems with was a yahoo a/c. For some reason I couldn't get it to get it own set of folders, it came in under the Personal Folders that was already set up and try as I might, that is where it ended up. So I ended up popping that yahoo a/c under the personal folders, it didn't get it's own set of personal folders a/c.
She also had me set up my ISP as the default . For my net passport I sign in on my original named account.
1. Then I set a sub folder under the in box of personal folders for that pop account. 2. Then I went in and did rules to pop that with Rules & Alerts/Tools a. on this machine only b. sent to people c. (I forget, but it was important) just keep editing till it pops d. move it to specificied folder
You have to close the account for the rules to take effect, then go back in.
My Pop (both) account are working, just the yahoo one I cannot send from I think that is because comcast is my outgoing server(everything is relative?) I believe it also has to do with security/and being able spam, it is a control feature (I am not against that).
I think that is the reason why/security. Keeping the ducks in a row.
But you have to realize your original account you still will not beable to send from that, now that you have transferred to Outlook. You can only receive. You must keep a paid a/c to keep things popped.
I don't know if I have made any sense/helped you. I don't know the answer why, I just know that that is the way it works/syncs for pop accounts that are not MSN/hotmail accounts. You didn't say what type of e-mail a/c it was......
I still receive my mail in both accounts, MSN Dialup and now Microsoft Outlook. I have one other issue to resolve, the folder that is on my computer from the dialup program and they have sent info about that, Onto my next project..... Kind regards,

I tried to explain it the best I know how from my experience. I think you really need to talk with Brian to get things straight. Then if things are still not working....... Outlook is a wonderful program. I think you need to call your isp 2nd /or Microsoft & get clear just on how Microsoft Outlook works, how many e-mail accounts you get with it, do you have to pay for it? How many e-mail accounts do you have to pay for....those are the types of questions you want to ask specifically.
Then I would get a tech to help.....if you can't get it to work.
You might save yourself a lot of time if you get the Tech help and have your questions written down.

Here is the wording on the error message...
"Send test e-mail message: Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server[SMTP] . The problem could be your SSL or port settings for the outgoing server. Verify your port settings under more settings on the advance tab."
As I have said in the beginning, the email program was working in the very beginning. It wasn't until a few outgoing messages had already been sent out that something [i don't recall what it was at the moment] and I clicked on it and since then, it will not send...!
Pearl4949 seems hell bent on helping me, but I would rather you help me Brian, is that possible..? She doesn't even know who she is writing to, Oops.
I thought if maybe I adjust the the email name from inuendo@abc.com [not real-example only] adding to an email name like inuendo01@abc.com, save that one and then make a new email address like inuendo@abc.com and save that one, then delete the bad set up and then try using the new real, will that work for me..?
Sorry if my creative thinking is all wrong, just rying to expedite this process.
TIA,

If, after verifying all the SMTP settings and making sure your firewall allows Outlook to connect to the Internet, if it still doesn't work, then start with a brand new mail profile, adding your account in from scratch (you can use your existing PST so you won't lose anything). If that doesn't work, I'm at a loss to explain what's wrong.

rabbstersocal - 29 Mar 2006 22:55 GMT Brian - What "existing PST" mean exactly, please?

Your Personal Folders file - the one containing your Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, and all your other Outlook data.

rabbstersocal - 31 Mar 2006 00:16 GMT thank you for that explanation, I'll get to work on your suggestions how to fix it. Will let you know the outcome, but it may be about 10 days or so, I'm now over 400 miles from that computer, fyi.
> > Brian - What "existing PST" mean exactly, please? > > Your Personal Folders file - the one containing your Inbox, Calendar, > Contacts, and all your other Outlook data. Pearl4949 - 28 Mar 2006 02:34 GMT Hi there, I finally found some information. But it applies to the e-mail account I popped. You need to search your ISP for POP3 and get their instructions. Read them word for word and follow the instructions.
I did this for the biz mail account a/c. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/bizmail/pop/pop-22.html It had listed all the instructions I needed.
Remember your SMTP server for outgoing mail has to MATCH your ISP. Then follow instructions word for word. If you don't understand, ask Brian to explain further. I hope you have your e-mail working soon....Kind regards, Pearl
