Since I installed Microsoft Office 2003 a few weeks ago I have been getting a
message that reads: "Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders.  This
completely freezes my computer--getting emails is now soooooo  slow.  I used
to have Outlook Express--and didn't have any problems.  Can someone tell me
how to stop Outlook from synchronizing folders?  ( I am using a POP server,
by the way)

I have had this problem as well.  It started soon after I installed a
new Palm pilot which I do synchronize with an exchange server at work.
I went ahead and changed my .pst file to the new format and made it
much smaller. That seems to help but not eliminate the slowdown.  hope
that helps.
