Reinstalling Office 2003

rustyfender04 - 23 May 2006 07:48 GMT Hi all,
I am having problems with Outlook 2003, and I am probably going to have to uninstall & reinstall all of MS Office in order to fix things in Outlook.
I tried the repair option, but no luck there. My question is...If I uninstall Office 2003, will I have to reinstall all of the security updates all over again? I have dialup, and it took a long time to download some of the updates!
Wonder if MS has a CD rom with all of the Office updates on it?

Nor can I add contacts to the address book.

To what and from what do you wish to export?

rustyfender04 - 24 May 2006 01:03 GMT I will have to research your answer, since I'm fairly new to Outlook.
The first time I installed Outlook, I was able to import my address book from OE6...Why the error now?

The address book contains no information. rustyfender04 - 25 May 2006 07:40 GMT Correction, I can add contacts to Outlook’s address book…It’s just that I cannot import them from Outlook Express 6. In fact, I cannot use the Import and Export wizard at all in Outlook 2003.
It keeps giving me the same old error message —“Internal Translation System Error”.
I have tried Google, Dog pile, etc, and cannot find anything related to this error message.
I’m paving new ground here I reckon. : -(

Give more detail, have you exported the Windows Address Book (that is part of OE6)? What format did you choose? ern.

I guess I need to start from the beginning.
I installed Office 2003 about 2 to 3 months ago, but my system resources could not quite handle Outlook, so I uninstalled it for the time being, until I could get more ram. But before I uninstalled it, I had imported my contacts from OE6 (.csv format--This was stored on a USB drive) into Outlook. After deciding to uninstall Outlook, I decided to delete the .pst (?) folder that had been created, and thus deleting my contacts with it.
Finally, after installing more ram this week, I reinstalled Outlook. But now I when I click on "File" / "Import and Export"--I get the error message.
I've tried a repair install a couple of times, but it has been of no help.

I assume, from your subject line, that you have done a complete reinstall of Office 2003. I am out of ideas, but you *might* get an answer from a search of the MS Knowledge Base rather than Google.
Good luck, ern.

I didn't do a complete removal of Office--I just used the wizard in Add-Remove programs to make installation adjustments with a few Office apps (Including Outlook).
I am wondering if a complete reinstall of the whole Office program is in order.

Maybe someone can find a fix for this.

I did manage to move my contacts from OE6 to Outlook, by selecting "all" in OE and dragging them over to Outlook's contacts folder.
Still trying to find a fix for the Import/ Export wizzard though.

You receive a message when you try to import or to export files in Outlook 2003: "Microsoft Outlook cannot start the required translator" http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;829985&spid=2520&sid=888
Regards, ern.

Import and Export wizard is up and running, and I just imported all of my e-mail and message rules from OE 6! Now that I think about, I believe that this is the way that I imported my contacts, mail, etc. the first time back in March--Not from a .csv file as I first thought.
I hope this thread is a big help for someone else later on.
One thought though--My MSOcache is stored on F drive. Could it have been deleted or corrupted when I went about the process of removing temp files? I remove them from time to time.

I have seen your, sometimes farcical, conversations with Russ Valentine and have gotten answers to questions I didn't know I needed to ask. Glad to be of help. ern.

Instead, you should export from Outlook Express.

rustyfender04 - 31 May 2006 01:48 GMT I just checked, and the letter dates look to be the ok to me.
Am I missing something?

rustyfender04 - 31 May 2006 22:14 GMT I did lose my red flags though.
Thanks for the tip...I'll try to remember it next time.
