i have tried to right click and drag my outlook folder and also specifically
the .pst folder to a folder on my external hard drive.  i'm receiving an
error message as follows:   cannot copy outlook: the process cannot access
the file because another process has locked a portion of the file".  How do I
resolve this issue so I can keep my Outlook pst file backed up?  My version #
is 10.6515.6714 (SP3).  Thanks in advance,  Andy

Hi Andy,

this site could be helpfull:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm

To move a PST file, Outlook must be shut down. Have a look also in the Task
Manager under "Process" if your Outlook is realy closed.

One additional information: Network PST files, or PST file on a network
drive are not supported by Microsoft. Outlook will get an access to this PST
file, but Microsoft does not recommend this network PST files.

Thanks for the reply.  I did close Outlook and checked the processes in
Windows Task Manager before posting this problem.  I closed the obvious
process entitled OUTLOOK but I'm afraid there might be other processes that
are labeled more inconspicuously.  At this point, I still can't backup the
.pst file.  Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Andy,

if you reboot your computer, (without to start Outlook) do you can backup
now the PST after a reboot?

Are you using ActiveSync or another synchronistion tool for mobile systems?

Do you use Word as an email editor?

Maybe your virus protection software will have a connection to this PST
file. You could disable this for a test.

So it is Outlook 2002, SP3.
