Iam using XP Pro and am the administrator. The day before this it was working
fine and had worked for months. I also noted that Excel and Work had to go
through an install routine before they came up.

I have the same problem.. Seems to be a tough one because no one seems to
know how to fix it. I did try to reinstall Outlook 2003 but all Outlook
install options were "x'ed" out. I got the same red "x's" when I tried to
reinstal/repair/and everyting else with Outlook 2007. I did notice that in
control panel my mail icon is missing too. As of now the only way I can get
into my mail is through webmail. This seemed to start after a recent MS XP
upadate that corruted the dot net installation. I had to uninstsll all of
the old dot net v2.0 then reinstall to get things working again - all except
Outlook.

Use the Microsoft Office Diagnostics tool located under Microsoft Office
Tools in your start menu, this will fix the problem.
