I have a problem getting into Outlook 2003 on my Windows XP machine.  I get
the following message: Can't start Microsoft Office Outlook. Mapi32.dll is
corrupt or wrong version.  This could have been caused by installing other
messaging software  Please reinstall outlook.

I tried reinstalling but same problem.  Please help me.

Does for everyone else. What it does for you remains a complete mystery. You
are providing no information that would permit anyone to help.

Maybe theres a problem with the fixmapi file.  I have emailed it to some
friends to see if they can help.

Or, as an alternative, you might consider posting exactly what you did and
what happenened, since we can't read your mind. It remains highly unlike the
the fixmapi routine is corrupt. But you should not use newsgroups for help
if you do not intend to provide any information.

Same exact thing happened to me and NO the fix does not work -- if you read
through the comments through out these messages you will see it has not
worked for anyone. Russ do you understand how frustrating it is to have a PC
issue and get no help??! Phil told you the problem if you cannot or are not
willing to help then fine but please dont degrade people who are looking to
gain an answer.

1)       Quit Outlook.

2) Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

3) Type Mapi32.dll in the Named box.

4) In Look In, click to select My Computer, and click Find Now.

5) Right-click to select Mapi32.dll in the search results list.

6) Click Rename, type Mapi32.old, and press ENTER to accept the name change.
If there are multiple copies of Mapi32.dll in the list, rename each.

7) Close the Find Files window and start Outlook.
When you start Outlook, it checks for the existence of necessary files.
In the case of Mapi32.dll, if it is not present at startup, Mapistub.dll is
used. If for any reason Mapistub.dll cannot be found, Setup automatically
attempts to replace both files.

NOTE: When you start Outlook and receive a prompt that files are missing,
click "Yes" to allow Windows Installer to replace them.
