MS Office Forum / Outlook / Installation and Configuration / July 2008Can't setup/create account-Operation Failed error
I upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP on a Dell computer, then re-installed Office XP. When I try to set up Outlook, I get an error message. When I go to the Control Panel, click mail, and Email Accounts (Setup e-mail accounts and directories) Nothing happens. It does NOT go to the next screen. There is no error message, just nothing. When I start Outlook, click on Email Accounts, I get an error message: "The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Please reinstall." I've reinstalled, but get the same thing. What could be the problem, not allowing me to set up Outlook, create the account? That seems like the right answer, but when I click "Add" for a new profile, it gives an error message: "Error accessing your system registry." Do you have any additional ideas? My Dell laptop stopped booting up with a registry problem. I reinstalled XP and office 2007. I cannot setup the e-mail account or set up my old archive directories. It just ignores me. I get the registry error. I tried to repair it with no help, my next step will be to reinstall office.
