We are deploying Office 2003 to thousands of computers on
our network. We have used the Custom Installation Wizard
to create a MST file with our configuration settings,
however, we can't figure out how to set the "Show this
folder As an e-mail Address Book" setting so Contacts will
appear in the Address Book. I created an OPS, a PRF,
tried capturing the settings using a diff tool, changed
the settings in the MST, but nothing seems to work. Does
anyone know how to do this?

It is not possible to set that with a PRF. If the Outlook Address Book
service is present, though, the user's default Contacts folder should be
included automatically. Are you seeing other behavior?

After we install Office 2003 using our transform and
launch Outlook, then go to Tools\E-mail Accounts...then
select "View or change existing directories or Address
Books" it is blank. We have to manually add the Outlook
Address Book so we can enable the "Show this folder As an
e-mail Address Book" setting (otherwise it is grayed
out). So, I guess the question is, how do we include the
Outlook Address Book service as part of the install? Am I
setting something incorrectly in the transform? Thanks

Getting the OAB to install is a separate issue from making a particular
folder part of the Outlook Address Book. Did you include the OAB in your
default Outlook profile settings in the transform?
I've seen reports of the OAB not loading in the profile, but haven't had a
chance to try to reproduce it here.

I included the OAB as part of the Outlook profile. In my
transform I chose Modify Profile, added my server name
and %USERNAME%, selected cached mode and added the OAB to
the customize section.
I have not tried building a New Profile with those same
settings, but I will try that now (based on Seamus's
suggestion).

Within the custom installation Wizard on the Outlook: Customize
Default Profile screen, select New Profile and configure it (Name it,
%username% and add your exchange server, etc.). On the Add Accounts
screen, select Customize additional Outlook profile and account info,
click Add, and select Outlook Address Book.
I had an existing install point and transform and I added the OAB my
modifying the existing profile, but it never worked for me. May have
been a fluke, but I had to set up the tranfrom from scratch and
include the OAB in the package to get it to work.
Hope that helps.
PS - Once you get OAB added and open Outlook for the first time, it
will take a little bit for the Contacts Folder to be added. I thought
I was still going to have to manually set the Contacts properties to
show up as an address book, but after a few seconds, the Contacts
showed up.

This is great information even if it was posted a year ago. We ar
getting ready to install Outlook for several hundred users and had thi
problem. This post helped me resolve the problem. Unfortunately I hav
another problem. If I already installed Outlook without the OAB in th
configured in the MST file, I can not get Outlook to reinstal
correctly.
I have uninstalled Office, delete all the registry keys I can fin
that relate to Outlook and delete any files on the harddrive that see
to relate to Outlook. When I reinstall Outlook with the correct MS
file it still is broken. I know my MST is correct because if I instal
on a fresh machine it works beautifully.
Does anyone know where all these custom MST settings are store s
they can be deleted? It would be nice to know how the garbage tha
Outlook leave behind!

There should be no need to reinstall. Simply use the Custom Maintenance Wizard to create a .cmw file to update the user's Outlook mail profile to add the Outlook Address Book, then run that file with Maintwiz.exe as the Wizard instructs.

Join the club. All I did was try to repair my Outlook install, unsuccessfully, and when I reinstalled it has been user hell

Wish i could've helped you sooner but here is the
info..There is a place in the CIW to add this. It is on
the page: "Outlook:Add Accounts". Select the "Customize
additional outlook profile and account information" radio
button and the click add. Choose Outlook Address book.
