try deleting/renaming all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
BTW, #7 is more effective than #3. :)

Well, I'll be doing a lot more of #7... That did not correct the problem. I
have now removed Office XP and Outlook 2003 completely and installed a new
copy of Office 2003 SBE. And guess what: Its STILL hanging on close. This
is just strange. Any other thoughts? THanks for your help!

I have two out of seven workstations on a SBS2003 server that do the same
thing. One on XP and one on 2000. I have not been able to figure aout the
problem. Keep hunting.
Thanks

I have since found,(I have Cybersitter installed on workstations to control
access) that Cybersitter blocks some port to outlook. Even if it is
inactve--but installed- Outlook will not close (runs as a process).
Cybersitter was no help on this issue. I clear it out and it has solved the
problem. There is also issues with ActiveSync that hang on to outlook. In
programing terms, it will go _NotVisible and still be active. maybe there is
some process on your machine doing the same.

I have the sort of the same issue and it's happening on our Windows XP Pro
image that we're busy rolling out! Something happened with the last revision
of the image but we can't pinpoint it.
This is what happens:
*You open Outlook 2003 (all patches and SPs applied), you read your emails
and close Outlook. Outlook terminates fine.
*When you open Outlook 2003 and read your emails and open ANY attachment(s),
then close all attachments and close Outlook, then when you look in Task
Manager, Outlook.exe is still running.
If you don't End task Outlook.exe, when you try to log off or shut down the
system you get this message:
"End Program W"
Once you End that, another message comes up:
"Outlook.exe is not responding" and then you have to End it before the
system shutsdown or logs off.
I've tried to use filemon and regmon but I can't pinpoint it. Next I'm going
to try Hijack this.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly apprectiated!

Sorry correction:
"Outlook.exe is not responding" is incorrect
the message is actually "Please wait while Microsoft Outlook exits"
