I just installed Office Professional 2003. When I open Outlook I get the
Windows Installer window, which says "Preparing to install". After a minute
or two the window disappears. I tried with the installation disk inserted,
but nothing happens. I even tried an office repair from the installation
disk. Nothing seems to resolve the problem. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

After over a week of creating more problems than I corrected, I finally
resolved the problem. It got to a point where I could not download MS updates
(it stated that I was missing .MSP files) and could not uninstall and
reinstall Office Pro 2003 (it stated that I was using a Network Resource that
was unavailable).
THE SOLUTION: I downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
(msicuu2.exe) and installed it. I ran the cleanup utility and REMOVED
Microsoft Professional Office 2003 from the list of programs. I than rebooted
and reinstalled Office 2003.
NET RESULTS: Everthing works perfectly now.
Hope this solution helps someone out there.

Thanks for the post it definitely helped me.  I installed a new hard drive a
few days ago and made it the primary boot drive, so the Western Digital
software automatically set this up and copied the old drive data onto the new
drive and reassigned the drive letters.  Easy right....except that not
everything copied, the cache with the msp files disappeared in the process
and Office 2003 no longer worked nor would updates.  Now all is well again.
BTW this process also wiped out my Symantec Antivirus 9.0 so I reinstalled it
and it works again.
Thanks,
Eric
